Soft drink giants, Sprite, has thrown it’s weight behind this year’s edition of the Battle Of The Year Nigeria Break-Dance competition, which is set to roll out activities for it’s 7th season this month; this much was made known by the brain behind the concept, Jolomi Kendaboh – he revealed that Sprite will pull it’s weight behind this year’s edition due to the strides the competition has made in recent years.

“I am happy to inform that Sprite is backing us fully this year; they have been there through the years but have decided to play a major role this year in order to add more verve and excitement to this year’s edition which is the 7th season of the competition.” Jolomi said.

This year’s edition begins with the Nigeria preliminaries for the 2015 International B.O.T.Y Break-Dance Championship taking place onSaturday, the 22nd of August, at the Indoor Sports Hall, Teslim Balogun Stadium, and on Sunday, the 23rd of August at the Indoor Sports Hall of the University of Lagos; there will be Bboy crew showcases and battles from the best crews in Nigeria with the winning crew representing Nigeria at the 2015 International B.O.T.Y World Finals in Braunshwieg, Germany.
The dance competition commonly referred to as B.O.T.Y, is an annual international break-dancing series that began in Hannover, Germanyover 20 years ago; it’s uniqueness is the battle between break-dance crews as opposed to individual break-dance battles. Regional qualifying tournaments, also known as preliminaries, are held worldwide culminating the World Finals event, which is usually held inGermany; as the biggest in it’s genre, the event is attended annually by over 12,000 visitors across the world.
Battle Of The Year is widely regarded as the “World Cup for Break-Dancing.”
B.O.T.Y is driven by the dance element of Hip-Hop which is break-dancing, where break-dance crews engage themselves in competitive dance or battles (the “showing off” of dance routines that are planned or improvised) to determine the best break-dance crew in the world; the other Hip-Hop elements (Graffiti art, DJ’ing and MC’ing) are integrated into the side program. Every year, Battle Of The Yearfeatures the best and most innovative break-dance crews from all over the world creating an environment for friendship, international exchange of culture and knowledge.
