Advance Warning is a journey to discovering new talented acts across the Nigerian Music Scene. Here we forecast the future of Nigerian Center stage artistes. These are the ones to look out for in the nearest future.

Maka: A Breathe of Fresh Air.

You know sometimes you just want to take a break from all the loud, banging, high tempo Afropop buzz. Moments like this are perfect some good dose of Maka!

Who is Maka?

Maka is a neo-soul singer who blends Afrojazz and hip hop into her art. She is a piece art on her own. Maka is a lawyer by professional but that hardly defines her. She’s bold, audacious and completely eclectic in her sound. Constantly dressed in vibrant and colourful outfits, Maka carries an air of fresh air, the type that the Nigerian Music Industry is dying to inhale, something like a sweet blend of Lauryn Hill and Erykah badu, wrapped in an Afrocentric package.

We got to notice her back in 2015 when she swept us off our feet with two of her introductory singles ‘Ife (Love)’ and ‘Mu Na Gi (You And I)’, and while we recovered from that she served us “The Truth”

“The Truth” her 8 track EP which was produced by Str8uttah showed her versatility and immerse talent. From the first track “Forever” to the last track “Circle”, she sang and rapped about life, love, happiness, sadness and everything in between in the most compelling yet soothing way.

Her unique talent has earned her a feature on Naeto C’s “Blown” and another intriguing feature on Modenine’s “No Matter What”. We all know a Modenine feature is a big deal and this everything reflecting Maka’s art.

Maka is not your average soul singer, she’s one coming to take the world by storm. Watch out for her!

Enjoy!!
